introducing liftshare
liftshare is a social enterprise. It was set up in 1997 with the initial aim of making more efficient use of the millions of empty car seats on UK roads by encouraging and enabling more people to share their car journeys.
The success of liftshare's national network of online car sharing systems encouraged the development of several more innovative transport solutions. Feedback from clients has helped us to ensure they are fit for purpose and will help communities to support a variety of sustainable transport measures.
liftshare's aim has evolved with time and is now to encourage and enable more efficient travel and transport by helping individuals to find travel companions and offering them a choice of more sustainable travel modes. liftshare systems now support:
- Walking, walking groups (WalkBUDi), walking route maps
- Cycling, cycle groups (BikeBUDi), cycle route maps
- Efficient car use
- Car sharing (lift sharing, car pooling, ride sharing, CarBUDi)
- Route finding and congestion/traffic information

- Efficient Taxi trips, taxi sharing (TaxiBUDi), return trips

In order to achieve behavioural change and change travel habits it is important to help individuals be fully aware of the choices available to them, to provide them with information and to provide tools to help them to act upon any new decision they make.

Before liftshare was founded in 1997, organised journey sharing was almost unheard of in the UK. Since then, through our continuous campaigning at both grass root and government levels, the concept of a UK journey-sharing database has now become a reality.
